Argentina Golden Dorado Fishing
Known as the “River Tiger,” the Golden Dorado is one of the most electrifying freshwater sport fish on the planet. Often compared to tarpon for their acrobatic leaps, these apex predators can grow to an impressive 60 pounds. Their explosive strikes, blistering runs, and flashes of gold make them a true bucket list catch. Alongside dorado, anglers also encounter Pacu, Pira Pita, Wolffish, and the stunning Surubí catfish—also called the Painted Catfish.
The Corriente and Paraná Rivers offer a pristine setting for this experience. With little boat traffic and thriving ecosystems, they remain unspoiled, quiet waters teeming with life. The Paraná is the second-longest river in South America, while the Corriente flows directly from the Iberá Wetlands, the world’s second-largest wetland, creating a delta of crystal-clear lagoons, rivers, and tributaries that host some of the finest Dorado fishing anywhere.
Anglers explore these waters from modern flats skiffs, each equipped with spacious casting decks at both bow and stern so two anglers can fish simultaneously. All equipment is provided, and the lodge’s full tackle shop offers rods, reels, lines, and apparel for those who want to travel light—or take a piece of the experience home. Fishing is done with medium spinning and baitcasting outfits or 6- to 8-weight fly rods paired with floating and sinking lines. Productive lures include jerkbaits, crankbaits, topwaters, and poppers, while flies are typically large streamers or surface poppers designed to trigger aggressive dorado strikes.

Accommodation comes in the form of a stunning family owned and operated river-side lodge just steps from the water. Don Joaquin River Lodge is the perfect combination of luxury, comfort and relaxation. Large open spaces with panoramic views, 3 dining rooms, a BBQ terrace with a wood oven and a stunning 14m pool to sip on a cocktail after a day chasing Dorado. Each room comes with an en-suite bathroom, A/C, WIFI, and majestic river views. Daily maid & laundry services are also included.
Food & Drinks:
Argentina is known for having some of the best asado’s (BBQ’s) and wine on the planet. You’ll be treated to a variety of traditional Argentinian BBQ’s, wines, drinks, gourmet meals and delicious desserts. Aside from the meat, Argentina produces cheeses, fruits, and vegetables that pair marvelously with the fine wines, beers, and brandies. From river-side lunches to fine-dining on the outdoor veranda with its panoramic views of the delta, the cuisine is as good the fishing. Guests also have access to an open bar 24 hours a day.
Other Activities:
- Visit a neighbouring traditional estancia. An Argentine cattle ranch home to a herd of 70+ horses and more than 1000 cattle.
- Explore the area via horesback and take in the stunning scenery while learning more about Argentine traditions.
- Hop in a boat or 4×4 for a wildlife safari and explore the incredible wildlife that is found in this region.
The trip takes place at the confluence of the Parana and Corriente Rivers in Esquina, Argentina.

Fly into Argentina’s Capital City, Buenos Aires (Ezeiza International Airport – EZE).
Several US and European airports have direct overnight flights available to Buenos Aires.

Documents Required:
A valid passport is required. Citizens of the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, the UK, and other Western European nations do not need a visa for tourist trips of up to ninety days.

Itinerary
Trip Duration: 8 Days
Day 1:
Arrive in Buenos Aires – Check-in at hotel & explore the city – Overnight in Buenos Aires.
Day 2:
Early morning private transfer to Don Joaquin River Lodge – 330 miles / 530 km – Approximate travel time is 5 to 6 hours.
Arrive for lunch and get comfortable at the lodge.
First fishing session.
Day 3 – 5:
Fishing Days.
Target Species include: Golden Dorado, Surubi (Painted Catfish), Pacu
Day 6:
Last fishing day &/or other activities – Wildlife Safari, Horse Riding, Argentinian Ranching.
Day 7:
Travel back to Buenos Aires – departure.
