Frequently Asked Questions:

What species can I target when fishing at Rugged Point Lodge?

Anglers at Rugged Point Lodge can expect excellent opportunities for Pacific salmon, as well as halibut, lingcod, and a variety of rockfish. The lodge’s prime location on Kyuquot Sound and offshore grounds means access to both sheltered inshore salmon fishing and deep-sea adventures for trophy halibut and bottomfish.

The lodge runs a fleet of purpose-built 23–25 ft boats equipped with top-of-the-line electronics, downriggers, and safety gear. Guests don’t need to bring their own tackle unless they want to; high-quality rods, reels, and bait are all provided and maintained daily.

Peak salmon season runs from late June through early September, with Chinook salmon arriving first, followed by strong runs of Coho into the fall. Halibut and bottomfish can be targeted throughout the summer months. Many anglers book July and August for the most consistent action across multiple species.

Guests usually fly into Vancouver or Campbell River before making their way to Fair Harbour by road or arranged transfer. From there, the lodge provides a scenic 45-minute boat ride across Kyuquot Sound to its remote location. The journey itself is part of the adventure, with chances to spot whales, sea otters, and eagles along the way.
