Kellankoski Lodge is a specialist fly fishing lodge in Central Finland’s Konnevesi region, positioned on the shore of Lake Liesvesi and close to the private waters of Troutland Finland. Anglers have access to more than ten kilometres of river and rapid fishing, with wild brown trout forming the main focus and grayling providing an important secondary target. The program combines professional guiding, relatively compact and manageable rivers, traditional Finnish accommodation and full-board dining, making it a practical option for anglers looking for a complete European trout-fishing package.
Fishing at Kellankoski centres on wild brown trout across a network of private river sections and rapids in the Konnevesi area. The rapids are generally between 25 and 40 metres wide and less than one kilometre long, allowing anglers to cover water thoroughly without the scale of a large salmon river. Most sections can be waded, while drift boats are used at selected locations when they provide better access or presentation. Guides choose the most suitable water each day according to river levels, weather, insect activity and recent fishing.
A typical brown trout measures around 50 centimetres, with the largest fish exceeding 70 centimetres. Grayling are also present throughout the river system, and exceptional fish can exceed 50 centimetres. Pike, perch and zander are available in the surrounding lakes and flowing water, allowing a separate predator-fishing day to be arranged when anglers want a change from trout fishing.
The main brown trout season begins in May, with the best overall period for larger fish running from June through the end of August. High water in May and early June favours streamers and stronger tackle. July brings productive caddis activity and fishing during the reduced-light hours of the evening, while lower August water often calls for smaller streamers, pupae and more delicate presentations. Pike fishing is strongest from April through July and again during September and October.
Most anglers use 5 to 8-weight single-handed rods, depending on fly size and water conditions. Six and 7-weight outfits cover much of the fishing, while a 7 or 8-weight is useful for heavier early-season streamers. Strong tippet is important because large trout often hold close to current, rocks and other structure. A wading staff is recommended, particularly during periods of higher water.
Kellankoski Lodge occupies a former school building constructed in 1923 on the shore of Lake Liesvesi. The building has been converted into a fishing and outdoor lodge and also contains the Ahoniemi restaurant. Its location places anglers close to the Troutland fishing areas and within easy reach of Southern Konnevesi National Park.
The lodge has four double rooms, one single room and one family room with four beds. Accommodation is comfortable and straightforward, with rooms allocated according to group size and the occupancy arrangement selected. A separate cottage, known as Koskela, may also be available for anglers seeking a more independent accommodation option.
Meals are prepared in the lodge kitchen using fresh ingredients sourced, caught or gathered as locally as possible. Menus place particular emphasis on fish, game and seasonal produce, with food prepared in small quantities rather than through a large hotel-style service. The guided fishing packages include dinner on arrival day, breakfast on departure day and full board throughout the fishing portion of the stay.
Kellankoski Lodge is located at Rossinkyläntie 443 in Konnevesi, within the lake and river landscape of Central Finland. The nearest airport is Jyväskylä Airport, approximately 56 kilometres from the lodge, with the road journey taking around one hour.
Most international anglers enter Finland through Helsinki Airport. From Helsinki, anglers can rent a vehicle and drive approximately 320 kilometres to Konnevesi, a journey of around four hours under normal conditions. It is also possible to travel from Helsinki to Jyväskylä by train, coach or domestic flight before completing the final section by rental car or prearranged transfer.

Day 1: Arrival at Kellankoski Lodge
Travel to Konnevesi and check into the lodge. Anglers meet the guiding team, discuss current river conditions and prepare equipment for the following morning. Dinner is served at the lodge.
Days 2 to 7: Guided Fishing Days
Each day begins with breakfast before anglers travel with their guide to the most suitable Troutland water. Fishing may involve wading compact rapids, working riverbanks and pools or using a drift boat at selected locations. The exact schedule is adjusted around water levels, weather, hatches and the most productive fishing periods. Full-board meals are included throughout the fishing days.
Day 8: Departure
After breakfast, anglers check out and travel to Jyväskylä Airport, Helsinki or their next destination in Finland.
What level of fishing experience is required?
Kellankoski can accommodate anglers with different levels of fly-fishing experience. The rivers are relatively compact and guides provide help with wading, presentation and fly selection. Anglers will benefit from being comfortable casting streamers and fishing in moving water.
How many anglers share each guide?
Standard package rates are based on double occupancy and a shared guide. This normally means two anglers fish with each guide. Private guiding may be available at a different rate and should be requested when booking.
What fishing equipment should anglers bring?
Anglers should bring their own rods, reels, lines, flies, leaders, waders and boots. A 5 or 6-weight outfit is useful for smaller flies and grayling, while a 7 or 8-weight is better suited to streamers and higher water. A spare outfit and wading staff are recommended.
Are fishing permits included?
Yes. All required fishing permits for the guided Troutland program are included in the package.
How physically demanding is the fishing?
Most fishing involves walking and wading in rivers and rapids. The water is manageable in many locations, but rocks, current and changing river levels require reasonable balance and mobility. Guides assist with safe access, and drift boats may be used at selected fishing areas.
What is the best time to visit for brown trout?
June through August provides the strongest overall period. Early-season anglers should expect higher water and streamer fishing, while July and August can provide caddis activity, evening fishing and opportunities with smaller flies.
Can anglers target pike as part of the trip?
Pike, perch and zander fishing can be arranged in the surrounding lakes and flowing water. Pike fishing is particularly productive from April through July and during September and October. Any lake-fishing day should be confirmed when booking so the correct guide and boat can be arranged.
Are meals included?
