Curicuriari Floating Lodge
Curicuriari is a remote floating fishing lodge on the upper Rio Negro system in northwestern Brazil, built for anglers pursuing exceptionally large peacock bass in lightly pressured water. The operation moves with the river, allowing anglers to fish more than 300 kilometres of channels, lagoons, tributaries and backwaters within a restricted Indigenous territory close to the Colombian border. With space for only eight anglers, private air-conditioned suites, chef-prepared meals, laundry service and Starlink Wi-Fi, the lodge provides a comfortable base for a demanding trophy-focused fishing program where quality matters more than high catch numbers.
Fishing at Curicuriari is focused on giant peacock bass, particularly the large temensis peacock bass for which the upper Rio Negro is known. This is a trophy fishery rather than a high-numbers destination, so anglers should expect fewer daily catches in exchange for a realistic opportunity at unusually large fish. The river system includes more than 300 kilometres of main channels, tributaries, lagoons, flooded forest and isolated backwaters, giving the guides plenty of water to work with as levels and conditions change.
Most fishing is done with baitcasting or spinning tackle using large topwater lures, jigs and subsurface baits. Anglers spend much of the day casting around fallen timber, submerged structure, points and lagoon entrances where peacock bass wait to ambush prey. Explosive surface strikes are a major part of the experience, but guides will change lures and techniques when fish are holding deeper or responding less aggressively. Butterfly peacock bass, bicuda, wolf fish and piranha can also add variety between encounters with larger temensis.
Two anglers normally share a boat and guide, fishing from stable platforms equipped with electric trolling motors and 50 hp outboards. The floating lodge can reposition along the river, reducing long daily runs and keeping anglers closer to productive water. Conventional rods, reels and lures are generally supplied, while fly anglers should bring their own equipment. The program is strictly catch and release, helping protect a fishery that receives only a small number of anglers each season.
Curicuriari’s floating lodge gives anglers a comfortable base in one of the most remote corners of the Brazilian Amazon. Its shallow-draft design allows the operation to move through more than 100 kilometres of fast, rocky water, positioning anglers closer to productive sections of the river as conditions change. The lodge accommodates only eight anglers in individual, air-conditioned suites, each with a private bathroom, heated water, quality bedding and enough privacy to properly rest after a long day of casting. Daily housekeeping and complimentary laundry service make it easy to travel light and keep fishing clothing ready throughout the week.
Meals are prepared by an onboard chef and include snacks before dinner, desserts and scheduled barbecue evenings, while the all-inclusive bar carries beer, wine and a selection of spirits. Between fishing sessions, anglers can relax in the shared lounge, compare the day’s catches or use the complimentary Starlink Wi-Fi to send messages and photos home. The lodge is not a temporary jungle camp. It combines private rooms, modern facilities and attentive service with the mobility needed to follow the fishing through an isolated river system.
Curicuriari is reached through Manaus, where anglers should arrive at least one full day before travelling onward. The next morning, anglers fly for around 90 minutes to São Gabriel da Cachoeira before continuing by speedboat for approximately four hours to the floating lodge. The river transfer takes anglers deep into the upper Rio Negro system and provides the first look at the remote waters they will fish during the week.
After six full fishing days, anglers return by speedboat to São Gabriel da Cachoeira and fly back to Manaus. An overnight stay in Manaus is recommended before any international departure in case weather or local transport causes delays.

Day 2: Travel to Curicuriari
After breakfast, anglers transfer to the airport for the approximately 90-minute flight to São Gabriel da Cachoeira. From there, the journey continues by speedboat for around four hours to the floating lodge, with snacks, drinks and Starlink Wi-Fi available during the transfer. After settling into the suites, anglers meet the guides, receive an orientation and have dinner onboard.
Days 3 to 8: Six Full Fishing Days
Each morning begins with breakfast before two anglers depart with their guide. Days are spent fishing the Curicuriari River’s main channels, tributaries, lagoons and backwaters for giant peacock bass. Lunch is carried aboard the fishing boat, allowing anglers to remain on the water until late afternoon. Evenings are spent back at the floating lodge with dinner, drinks and time to prepare tackle for the following day.
Day 9: Return to Manaus
After breakfast, anglers travel by speedboat back to São Gabriel da Cachoeira and fly to Manaus. On arrival, they are transferred to their hotel for the night, with dinner arranged independently.
Day 10: International Departure
Anglers are transferred from the hotel to Manaus International Airport for their flight home. Exact flight and transfer times can vary, so international departures should be scheduled for the day after returning from Curicuriari.
How is Curicuriari reached from Manaus?
The journey normally includes an approximately 90-minute flight from Manaus to São Gabriel da Cachoeira, followed by a speedboat transfer of around four hours to the floating lodge. The return follows the same route.
Is internet access available?
Starlink Wi-Fi is available at the floating lodge and may also be provided during the main river transfer. Anglers should not expect mobile service or reliable internet while fishing away from the lodge.
What is the baggage allowance?
Anglers should pack in a soft-sided bag weighing no more than 33 pounds, together with a small daypack. Hard suitcases are not recommended because space is limited on the aircraft and speedboat.
Are laundry and housekeeping included?
Yes. Daily housekeeping and complimentary laundry service are normally included, allowing anglers to travel with fewer fishing shirts and trousers.
What fishing methods are most effective?
Most fishing is done with baitcasting or spinning tackle using large topwater lures, bucktail jigs and subsurface baits. Accurate casting around fallen timber, lagoon entrances, points and submerged structure is important.
Is fishing equipment provided?
Conventional rods, reels and a selection of lures are included. Most anglers still prefer to bring their own reels, favorite lures and personal tackle. Fly anglers must bring their own complete equipment.
