Colombia has many rivers and natural parks, however when it comes to fishing, the Tomo River and Gavilan River are top of the list. No matter where you decide to go, most of the best fishing destinations around the world have something in common, they are difficult to access.
Anglers fish off 14-foot Lowe aluminium boats with Yamaha 30 HP motors and electric motors, each with an experienced native guide, and will get the opportunity to fish both the Tomo and Gavilan Rivers on this trip. Hunting trophy Peacock’s in two unique freshwater systems.
Tomo River:
Tomo is a big river with lots of structure, white sand beaches, flats, smaller tributaries and an incredible number of lagoons, it is considered one of the best rivers in Vichada for trophy size Peacock Bass occasionally exceeding 20 pounds and getting up to 28 – 30 pounds.
Gavilan River:
Known for its epic sight-fishing opportunities. When it all comes together, nothing beats sight-casting, heart pounding, adrenaline racing, fast-paced action.
Lodging:
Akuani Floating Camp consists of five fully-equipped floating cabins. Each cabin has two twin-size beds, a private bath with shower, electricity, a fan, and mosquito nets. The camp is designed by anglers for anglers. Every detail of this operation has been designed to make your stay as enjoyable as possible.
The package also includes 2 hotel nights in Medellin on arrival and departure.
Food & Drinks:
Anglers will receive 3 meals a day while at camp. The private chef curates a variety of international and local cuisine. Unlimited soft drinks, unlimited beers, and unlimited snacks are included.
The floating camp is located on the Tomo River in the Vichada region of Colombia.
How to get there:
Direct flights are available to Medellin from several international airports. Upon arrival in Colombia a rep will be on hand to pick you up at the airport and drive to the hotel. Anglers will charter a private flight to the fishing destination the following day.
Documents Required:
A valid passport is required to enter Colombia. We will inform you what is needed based on your nationality.
Travel Arrangements:
We will advise on the best international flight options and take care of all local transfers.
10-Day Tour Itinerary:
6 Full Days Fishing
Day 1:
Arrival to Medellin, Colombia. A representative will pick you up at Jose Maria Cordova international airport and take you to hotel in Medellin, approx 40 min drive. You will be checked in at the hotel. The package provides double accommodation, if you want to be single, the price is US90 and you pay at the counter.
Day 2:
Flight to La Primavera, Vichada. A representative will pick you up at the hotel and take you to Olaya Herrera airport (Medellin’s domestic airport), for your charter flight to La Primavera (estimated flight time 1:30min). Representative’s will be waiting for you at Primavera runway to take you for a 4 hour drive in 4×4 trucks to the Tomo river where you will take boats to the floating camp, approx boat ride time 15min. Upon arrival at the floating camp you will be received with cold drinks and snacks.
Day 3 – 8 (Fishing):
You will be fishing the Tomo and Gavilan rivers with its huge sandbanks, spouts, rock structures and lagoons. Every day you will go to different sections of the rivers and lagoons looking for giant fish!
Day 9:
Reversal trip to La Primavera from the floating camp and private charter to Medellin. A representative will be waiting for you at the domestic airport to take you to the hotel.
Day 10:
Depending on your international flight schedule, a representative will pick you up at the hotel and take you to the airport.

What’s the best time to visit, and how difficult is the journey?
The fishing season runs during Colombia’s dry spell—typically from December through early April, January to March for optimal conditions and lower water levels. Transportation begins with arrival in Medellín or Bogotá, followed by a short charter flight to La Primavera, a 3–4-hour 4×4 transfer to the river, and a final 15–20-minute boat ride to camp.
