As one of the seven wonders of the underwater world, the Red Sea offers anglers some of the most exciting fishing opportunities found anywhere on earth. The stunning coral reefs and warm waters attract a plethora of pelagic species and make for incredible topwater fishing with poppers, as well as jigging for the giants that lurk below.
The Red Sea is a year-round fishery with different species more active at certain times of the year. The pelagic species move through the area at different stages, while the resident Coral Trout and Groupers tend to stick around for large portions of the year. Every month is different and your trip will be planned dependent on your target species.
- January – March: Tuna season. Big Yellowfin Tuna, Skipjack Tuna, Dogtooth Tuna, Coral Trout, GT’s start arriving end of Feb into March.
- April – June: This is the main season for GT’s, Amberjacks, and Dogtooth Tuna. June is the best time for topwater fishing and jigging, and Sailfish, Trevally, and Bohar Snapper also start feeding. June is a great month for big Groupers.
- July – September: The topwater bite continues and all the above mentioned species continue to feed well. The Dogtooth Tuna jigging heats up in August, the King Mackerel start showing up and the big groupers are still around. September is when the giant Barracuda start arriving.
- October – December: Few GT are around but those that are are big! The Barracudas have now arrived, and Trevally species are still feeding. Yellowfin Tuna show up sporadically and King Mackerels are active.
