Target Species:
The Darien coast of Colombia has an abundance of Sailfish, Cuberra Snapper, Jacks, Mahi Mahi, Tuna, Roosterfish, Marlin, Snook, Almaco Jacks, Tarpon and many more. The biggest Mahi Mahi on the planet live here, with specimans over 70 pounds a real possibility. Tarpon crossed the Panama Canal and now also thrive here, tarpon of up to 250 pounds have been caught and fish over 150 pounds are hooked regularly, making this a world record tarpon fishery.
- December – April: Best time for inshore popping and jigging, as well as 100 pound Yellowfin Tuna on topwater lures. Mahi Mahi, Cuberra Snapper, Roosterfish, Bigeye tuna, Black Marlin, Sailfish, Almaco Jacks, Snook, and Bluefin trevally are all possible.
- April – June: Non stop baitfish migrations make this a remarkable time of the year. Inshore feeding frenzy’s of Sailfish, Tuna, Snapper, Sharks, Whalesharks, and Marlin follow the Anchovies, Blue Runners, and Glass minnows that migrate to these waters on a weekly basis. All the inshore and pelagic species are possible during this time.
- July – November: The offshore bite explodes with some of the best Blue Marlin, Monster Mahi, Sailfish and Tuna fishing on the planet. Inshore fishing continues to be epic with Tarpon, Roosters, Snook, Black Marlin and Cuberra Snapper providing the most enjoyment and Almaco Jacks appearing as the season progresses.
Environment:
While Colombia’s coastline is relatively new to sport fishing, the famous waters of this remote stretch of coastline have produced more world records than anywhere else. With virgin, unpressured bays and the continental drop-off right on its doorstep, this coastline is truly the last frontier for sport fishing in the Eastern Pacific.

Boats & Equipment:
One 38ft and two 36ft center consoles with dual 300hp and 200hp Suzuki outboards. These boats are designed and built specifically for popping, fly fishing, livebaiting and jigging. Both boats are equipped with tuna tubes, casting platforms, sonar, livewells, JL music systems, and top of the line popping, jigging, and livebait tackle.

Darien Lodge is based 58 miles north of the town of Bahia Solano and 35 miles south of the world-famous, Tropic Star Lodge. This means minimum fishing pressure and personalized service.
How to get there:
Fly into Medellin (José María Córdova International Airport).
Several US airports have direct flights available.
Once you touch down in Colombia, a guide from Fish Colombia will be there to pick you up and check you in at your hotel for the evening.
The following day you will take a short domestic flight with your guide from Medellín – Bahia Solano.
Documents Required:
A valid passport is required. Citizens of the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, the UK, and other Western European nations do not need a visa for tourist trips of up to ninety days.

Trip Duration: 8 Days
Day 1:
The adventure begins!
Arrive in Medellín – Meet your guide, check-in at hotel & explore the city – Overnight in Medellín.
Day 2:
Early morning domestic flight to Bahia Solano.
Arrive for lunch, meet the guides and get comfortable at the lodge.
Hit the water for an afternoon session of fishing.
Day 3 – 5:
Full Fishing & Exploring Days.
The fishing days are flexible – Target species depending on conditions – Mahi, Cuberra Snapper, Roosterfish, Yellowfin and Bigeye Tuna, Black Marlin, Sailfish, Almaco Jacks, Snook, Jacks, Mackerel, Bluefin Trevally.
Day 6:
Fishing &/or other activities:
You can choose between scuba diving, snorkeling, trekking to explore the deep jungle, night safaris, whale watching and marine safaris tours
Day 7:
On the last day, check-out will be at 8:00 AM. After checking out, you will fish your way back to Bahia Solano, where you will spend your final night before the flight back to Medellín.
Upon arriving at the Costa Chocó – Bahia Solano hotel at around 4 PM, you have some free time to relax and explore the surroundings.
In the evening, we have planned dinner at the Casa Negra restaurant, located just outside the hotel. It promises to be a wonderful way to conclude our trip and enjoy the local cuisine.
Day 8:
Flight back to Medellín before departing Colombia.
