Guests will have access to many location options daily, including crystal clear freestone rivers, smaller streams and float tube options on unfished high mountain alpine lakes. Fishing is done with a variety of different techniques including streamers, nymphs, and classic dry fly fishing, all in crystal clear waters and sight fishing opportunities.

When fishing for rainbow trout in high mountain alpine lakes, anglers will access these fisheries via float tubes with guides with the possibility of switching lakes mid-day. Frequently Asked Questions:
What makes heli fishing in British Columbia unique compared to standard fly fishing trips?
Heli fishing unlocks remote rivers and alpine streams that are completely inaccessible by road. These untouched waters hold bull trout that rarely see a fly, creating incredible opportunities for sight-fishing and targeting trophy-sized fish in pristine, wilderness settings. The helicopter also allows anglers to cover multiple river systems in a single day, maximizing variety and adventure.
When is the best time of year to fly fish for bull trout in BC?
Prime bull trout fly fishing runs from June through October, depending on river conditions. Early summer offers aggressive fish feeding after the spring melt, while late summer and fall see bull trout moving upriver in preparation for spawning. Water clarity and flows improve as the season progresses, providing exceptional sight-fishing with streamers in gin-clear water.
What fly fishing techniques are most effective for bull trout on heli trips?
Bull trout are voracious predators that respond well to streamer fishing. Large articulated streamers, swung or stripped through deep pools, mimic their natural prey like whitefish or juvenile salmon. Anglers also have success dead-drifting big nymphs or swinging sink-tip setups through boulder-strewn runs. Guides often recommend heavier rods (7–8 weight) to handle both the flies and the powerful fish in fast currents.
How challenging is a heli fishing trip in terms of fitness and skill level?
Heli fly fishing is tailored to a range of skill levels, but anglers should be prepared for wading in uneven, rocky terrain and casting larger flies with heavier rods. Physical demands are moderate, and the helicopter minimizes hiking, so the focus stays on fishing. Beginners can thrive with guidance, while experienced fly anglers will relish the technical challenges of presenting flies in fast, glacial-fed waters to aggressive bull trout.
